Overvalued people
Sip overpriced cocktails
With brollies and hats
In surrounding of Tudor ersatz
Conversations stretch like
Yesterday’s chewing gum
Never quite snapping in the
Right places
Just dangling and sticking to the
Tables and tongues
We, the aesthetes
We, the beautiful and besotted
Will drink coffee
And sit on highchairs
And stare out the windows
At the proles who tread the
Cracked council paved patio
We pretend not to see them
We love being looked into at
I am the goldfish
Look at me and mine
In my bowl of cappaciino
And ‘pretend’ classic wine
